One question we're often asked at Miller Biofuels is:
“How many kilograms of logs do I get?”
It sounds like a simple question, but when it comes to firewood, weight isn't always the best way to tell how much you're actually buying.
That's why we sell our firewood by volume rather than weight.
Why Can Firewood Weight Vary?
Wood is a natural product, and the weight of a load can vary depending on the species, density and moisture content of the timber.
Hardwood is generally denser and heavier than softwood, while wetter timber will naturally weigh more than dry timber.
So when it comes to firewood, heavier doesn't necessarily mean better value.
Moisture Makes a Big Difference
Water adds weight. A load of wet logs could weigh considerably more than the same volume of properly dried logs.
At Miller Biofuels, our focus is on supplying quality kiln-dried firewood that's ready to burn, rather than achieving a particular weight.
How Do We Sell Our Firewood?

Our loose-tipped firewood is measured by volume. Our standard loose load is approximately 1.1m³, making it a great option if you have a suitable area or log store for us to tip into.
We also offer smaller quantities in bulk bags.

Our bulk bags measure approximately 80 × 80 × 80cm, giving customers another convenient option when a full loose-tipped load isn't required.
So, What Should You Look For?
Rather than simply asking how many kilograms you're receiving, look at the volume of firewood, the type of wood and, importantly, how dry it is.
Buying heavier logs doesn't necessarily mean you're getting more fuel — sometimes you're simply getting more moisture!
Not Sure How Much You Need?
If you're unsure whether a bulk bag or loose-tipped load would suit you best, we're always happy to help.
Tell us how often you use your stove and roughly how much storage space you have, and we'll talk you through the options.
